KOTA BHARU, Dec 8 - Local authorities (PBT) have been instructed to assist the National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA) in collecting information on losses suffered due to the floods.
Deputy Minister of Housing and Local Government Datuk Aiman Athirah Sabu said PBT will be able to assist by identifying the type of assistance that can be channelled through her ministry.
She said that her ministry currently does not have statistics on losses incurred by agencies under the Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPKT).
The minister added that KPKT is presently in the process of evaluating and recording data, apart from preparing to face the second wave of floods.
"From our side, at the same time, the PBT has been instructed to see which areas in which KPKT can help, as well as pay attention, God willing, through our teams who have made earlier preparations for the aftereffects of the flood. As for the damage, there needs to be an authentic record for us to evaluate," said Aiman Athirah.
She spoke at a press conference after the Santunan Kasih dan Masyarakat Sejahtera DUN Kota Lama Community Programme, here.
During the ceremony, she presented 500 food baskets to heads of households affected by the flood, rickshaw pullers and e-hailing drivers.
Commenting further, Aiman Athirah said the Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) had been instructed to be on stand-by and be deployed early in flood-affected areas.
In addition to Kelantan, her ministry is also focused on the Dungun area of Terengganu, as well as Pahang and Johor.
People are also ordered to evacuate early if the water level rises in their residential areas and they also need to be aware of the current situation before the rescue team arrives.
