KUCHING, 21 April - The Women, Family and Community Development ministry (KPWKM) plans to incorporate elements of patriotism into its programs, including those involving aspects of parenting and child development.
Minister, Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri said while patriotism is not the core responsibility of the ministry, the message of loving the country can be conveyed through existing programs, especially to parents.
"The important thing is that the message gets through. We want the people, especially parents, to realize that being a citizen of Malaysia comes with responsibilities. A simple example: when children go to school, don't forget to have them wear the flag. That's one of the values that can be cultivated from home," she said.
She further added the implementation of these patriotic elements is not just symbolic but an effort to shape the identity of the people, starting from the family institution.
Nancy said this to the media after attending the Jalur Gemilang Pinning Ceremony on Student Uniforms at SMK Agama Sheikh Haji Othman Abdul Wahab, here.
Also present were Sarawak State Education Director, Omar Haji Mahi, and the Principal of SMK Agama Sheikh Haji Othman Abdul Wahab, Fatimah Wan Adini.
