GOMBAK, April 11 – Malaysia will continue to champion the Palestinian cause without compromising national development, the welfare of its people, or the country’s economic growth.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim emphasized the importance of striking a balance between Malaysia’s unwavering support for the Palestinian struggle and its responsibility to ensure domestic stability and prosperity.
“We must govern responsibly and safeguard the interests of our people. That is the key — not just for the short term, but for the long term. If we become weak, we risk squandering our resources, falling into oppression and exploitation, and losing the capacity to respond effectively,” Anwar said.
He added that Malaysia would persist in raising the Palestinian issue on the international stage, as part of its broader commitment to both humanitarian causes and national strength.
“We will continue to speak out on the issue, because it is also about protecting our own interests. Without a strong economy and national wealth, we won’t be able to offer any meaningful support. Rest assured, we have strong support for this,” he told reporters today.
Anwar made these remarks during a question-and-answer session at the Meet Anwar@IIUM: A Special Homecoming event held at the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) in Gombak.
At the same time, the Prime Minister highlighted the need to prioritize political stability, warning that any internal instability could leave the country vulnerable to exploitation and hinder its ability to assist others.
In another development, Datuk Seri Anwar also expressed his deepest appreciation and gratitude to all parties involved in the successful organization of the ASEAN Investment Conference 2025, which concluded yesterday.
He expressed confidence that representatives from ASEAN member countries had shared positive views throughout the event, contributing to the region’s economic advancement and strengthening bilateral cooperation across Southeast Asia.
