BATU FERINGGI, August 20 - Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) will discuss with the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA) on further action following the issue of overlapping courses.
Deputy Minister Datuk Mustapha Sakmud said that action will be taken immediately so that the issue will not be prolonged as well as cause a detriment to universities and students.
“We will evaluate any overlapping courses to avoid unnecessary competition among universities. This will lead to confusion for students and difficulties in choosing their preferred IPT. The review will be coordinated in the University Central Unit (UPU) under the Bahagian Kemasukan Pelajar IPTA (BKPA).
“If there are still overlaps, MQA needs to examine it and we will reduce it,” Datuk Mustapha Sakmud said this to the reporter after the National Administrator's Day and Public University Administrators Convention 2024 at Double Tree Resort, Batu Feringgi Pulau Pinang, this morning.
He explained that the courses offered must meet the needs of the industry and if the marketability falls below 30 percent, the course should be considered for syllabus revision.
At the event, Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM) was selected as the recipient of the Malaysian Public University Special Premier Leadership Award -Most Popular News Broadcasting Agency (Government Agency) in Public Universities (UA).
Deputy Minister of Higher Education Datuk Mustapha Sakmud presented the award to Penang Broadcasting Director Nor Hisham Abbas on behalf of RTM.
