KUCHING, 29 January- One person died and four others were buried in a landslide incident in Kampung Lereng Bukit, Miri, early this morning.
According to the Director of Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department, Jamri Masran, the deceased is a teenager.
He explained that efforts to extract the remaining four buried victims were underway as of 8:00 am.
However, the party had to stop the search operation temporarily since the electricity has yet to be cut off.
"All the buried victims, are between 8 years old to 71 years old.
"Eight other victims are fortunately safe and have been retrieved by the fire department," he said when contacted by RTM.
He added that a total of 15 firefighters from the Lopeng Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) and the Miri Sentral Fire and Rescue Station were rushed to the scene.
Earlier, two houses in the village were buried after a landslide occurred in the hilly area, at about 3.00 am.
