More than 21,000 units of medical devices seized, sold without a valid license

CYBERJAYA, Dec 6- More than 21,000 units of various types of medical devices have been confiscated from a medical device supplier company for not possessing a valid license.

Chief Executive of Medical Device Authority, Ministry of Health Malaysia, Dr. Muralitharan Paramasua said the raid was carried out in Sungai Besar, ​​Selangor on November 28th after receiving complaints from the public.

He added that the company involved is believed to have distributed various types of medical devices online without a valid registration.

"The various types of medical devices sold include wound dressings of various sizes, fertility test kits, pregnancy test kits, condoms and gauze which are estimated to be worth RM45,000 in one company alone," he said.

The case is being investigated under Act 737, Section 5(1) and Section 15(1), which can result in a fine of up to RM200,000 or imprisonment of up to three years if convicted.

MDA advises the public, particularly retailers and health service providers, to check first the license status and registration certificate of medical devices before making a purchase.
