Melaka records 666 cases of online fraud, losses reach RM19.5 million

ALOR GAJAH, April 21 - Melaka recorded 666 cases of online fraud with a breakdown of 157 cases through the National Fraud Response Centre (NSRC) and 609 cases that did not go through the NSRC as of January to April 20, 2025.

State Science, Technology, Innovation and Digital Communications Exco, Datuk Faitul Nizam Roslan said, it involved a total loss of RM19.5 million.

The state government is drafting a working paper to increase awareness campaigns so that the public is always careful about online fraud.

"For last year alone, 1,325 cases and a total loss of RM48 million in the same period, the cases have decreased but the total loss in the same period. So we call on all the community to be more aware and careful," Faitul Nizam spoke to reporters after the Rembia State Assembly Open House, here, yesterday.

He explained that the state government will also collaborate with Melaka Invest to hold awareness seminars on fraud for private sector employees, following the increase in cases among employees in the sector.
