LABUAN, March 23 -The Federal Territory Islamic Religious Council (MAIWP) Labuan has allocated RM1.6 million for the implementation of a packaged food aid distribution initiative in the region.

A donation of RM50,000 was also given to Surau Fath Al-Bari at the Labuan Correctional Centre for the execution of educational and spiritual programs.

The donation cheque was presented by MAIWP Labuan during an iftar event held yesterday, where 720 beneficiaries and their families were celebrated.

The beneficiaries included recipients of MAIWP's Monthly Living Assistance, single mothers, the elderly, and those with multiple dependents.

A total of 240 heads of families received food basket contributions amounting to RM36,000.

Additionally, 100 children from the beneficiaries received RM50 each in duit raya from MAIWP Labuan.

Also present at the event were MAIWP Labuan Manager Ustaz Md. Fadzli Md. Saad and zakat payer representative Dato Seri Mohd Alias Abdul Rahman.

The ceremony took place in Desa Tunas Hijau, Kampung Sungai Miri, and was officiated by the Deputy Chairman of Labuan Corporation, Simsudin Sidek.
