KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 7- The Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM) has extended the implementation of the ban on heavy vehicle movement on highways during peak hours on several selected highways around the Klang Valley starting February 19.
LLM Director-General Datuk Sazali Harun in a statement announced that the ban was gazetted by the government on October 21 and is one of the initiatives under the Cabinet Committee on Road Safety and Congestion (JKMKKJR).
"The heavy vehicles involved in the implementation of this ban are Class 2 motor vehicles (vehicles with two axles and six wheels excluding buses).
"...and Class 3 motor vehicles (vehicles with three or more axles excluding buses)," the statement said.
However, the ban is exempted for heavy vehicles involved in cleaning work; domestic waste disposal and delivery; emergency and enforcement services as well as heavy vehicles involved in highway maintenance work.
At the same time, LLM calls on all owners and drivers of heavy vehicles to comply with the heavy vehicle movement ban hours when it begins to be implemented.
LLM remains committed to improving the its level of service, for the well-being and safety of highway users.
The highways involved are the North-South Expressway (LUS), the New Klang Valley Expressway (NKVE), the North-South Central Link Expressway (ELITE) and the Duta-Ulu Kelang Expressway (DUKE).
The ban is aimed at ensuring smooth traffic movement in the Klang Valley area and the Kuala Lumpur city centre.
