KULIM, January 2- The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) Kulim Branch, Kedah in collaboration with the KPDN Alor Setar has cracked down on the sale of subsidized 1 kilogram packets of cooking oil, sugar and wheat flour without a license to sell controlled goods.
This was the result of a raid at a factory construction site in Kulim, Kedah through Operation Kita Gempur.
Kedah KPDN Director, Muhammad Nizam Jamaludin said the raid, which was carried out at 12.00 noon with seven personnel, also arrested a local man in his 30s who claimed to be the caretaker of the retail premises.
He said that further inspection at the premises found a number of 1 kilogram polybag cooking oil, sugar and wheat flour stored in the premises without a valid license or permit.
"In this regard, the raid team seized 967 kg of subsidized polybag cooking oil, 480 kg of wheat flour and 23 kg of sugar with a total seizure value estimated to be almost RM4,000," he said.
"The case is being investigated under Section 21 of the Supply Control Act 1961 [Act 122].
"KPDN would like to warn all parties dealing with controlled and subsidized goods to always comply with the laws that have been enforced and stress that the ministry will not compromise with any party found to be involved in the misappropriation of controlled and subsidized goods," he said.
