KUALA KEDAH, Feb 22- More than 1,000 applications for the Prosperous People's Housing Programme or Program Perumahan Rakyat Sejahtera (PPRS) in Kedah have been received so far and every year the Ministry of Rural and Regional Development (KKDW) has successfully built 150 new houses.

Political Secretary to the Minister of Rural and Regional Development Datuk Razlan Rafii said that this is the government's effort to help the underprivileged to own comfortable places to live.

"We receive many applications through the Federal Village Development and Security Committee (JPPKP) appointed by the federal government.

"Some also apply directly to the KKDW and some through the divisional UMNO. This initiative is seen as the government's effort to target zero poverty," he said.

He said this to reporters after handing over six PPRS houses in Kubang Rotan and Alor Janggus in the Kuala Kedah parliamentary constituency here.

Meanwhile, he also informed that the ministry is also working to resolve issues related to the construction of PPRS houses based on the e-kasih list.

The ceremony was also attended by the Kuala Kedah divisional UMNO chief, Datuk Abd Mutalib Harun.
