GUA MUSANG, December 22 – Four sinkholes were detected at Kilometer 78, Jalan Gua Musang-Lojing, near the Orang Asli settlement of Kampung Jekjok, Kelantan, since the route was closed to all vehicles on December 14.
The Chairman of the Gua Musang Disaster Operations Control Center (PKOB), Nik Raisnan Daud said the repair work has yet to be done because the Public Works Department (JKR) was conducting a study on the movement of underground water and soil security in the area.
"The existence of water holes and underground caverns causes an adverse reaction and leads to the formation of sinkholes.
"There are four sinkholes that have been identified by JKR. For the sake of safety, this route will continue to be closed to all vehicles until the study is completed and further action is taken," he said.
He said this after attending the Flood Relief handover ceremony by Syarikat Damai Kuari Sdn. Bhd, Kuari Dinar Sdn. Bhd, and Vita Mix Sdn. Bhd. at the Gua Musang District and Land Office, here.
Meanwhile, Gua Musang District Police Chief, Superintendent Sik Choon Foo, confirmed that the route will be completely closed from today until new instructions are issued by JKR.
The road closure in the area is expected to continue until the study and repairs are completed to ensure the safety of road users.
