KUALA LUMPUR, 3 February- Sarawak recorded a slight increase in the number of flood-affected residents this morning at 10,238 people compared to 10,256 last night, while Sabah remained at 196 people.
The Disaster Portal of the National Disaster Control Center (NDCC), National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA) showed that 3,006 families in Sarawak are still sheltering in 48 temporary relief centers (PPS) across 15 districts, as of 6.00 am.
This involves the districts of Bintulu (4,013) with six PPS, Serian (1,744) with nine PPS, Selangau (1,037) with four PPS, Subis (758) with three PPS, Tatau (712) with one PPS and Miri (545) with nine PPS.
Sebuyau (534) with four PPS, Sebauh (176) with one PPS, Samarahan (144) with one PPS, Mukah (139) with two PPS, Kanowit (107) with one PPS, Beluru (88) with one PPS, Gedung (65) with one PPS, Sibu (three) with one PPS and Dalat (three) with one PPS.
In Sabah, the evacuation involved 55 families in three districts who were placed in three PPS this morning. The affected districts are Tongod (155) with two PPS, and Kinabatangan (41) with one PPS.
Meanwhile, the Malaysian Meteorological Department (METMalaysia) issued a thunderstorm warning involving several areas in Sarawak, Sabah and the Federal Territory of Labuan, which is expected to continue until 10.00 am.
METMalaysia, in a statement issued at 6.10 am, said that thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds are predicted to occur in several areas in Sarawak, including Samarahan, Sri Aman (Sri Aman), Betong (Pusa and Betong), Sarikei (Pakan, Julau and Meradong), Sibu, Kapit (Song and Belaga) and Bintulu (Sebauh).
In Sabah, the affected area is the hinterland (Kuala Penyu), while the Federal Territory of Labuan is also expected to experience similar weather conditions.
According to METMalaysia, a warning is issued when there are signs of a thunderstorm with an intensity of rain exceeding 20 millimeters per hour that is close to or expected to occur for more than one hour.
