MELAKA, Nov 14th- The government continues to collaborate with electric vehicle (EV) manufacturers to widely disseminate the safety and handling guidelines for EV introduced by The Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research (MIROS).
Transport Minister Anthony Loke said the three EV safety guidelines are the Safety Guide for Road Users and Public Concerning Electrified Vehicle Incident Management (MyEVIM), Assessment Protocol for High Voltage Electric Vehicles, and the Guidelines for Electric Vehicle Crash Testing Laboratory Safety.
He said his ministry is also preparing an approach that is easier for the public to understand.
The guidelines are also available for viewing on the MIROS and Ministry of Transport websites.
"This is our pioneering effort to release a guideline regarding the safety management of EV vehicles. I congratulate and thank MIROS for taking the initiative to carry out this task.
"These guidelines are very important because EVs are gaining popularity. Even though in Malaysia the adoption of EVs is still at an early stage, it attracts many fans who want to buy EVs. Currently, we have tens of thousands of EVs in Malaysia, although it has not yet reached a large scale," said Loke here.
He was speaking to the media at a press conference after the launching of EV crash testing laboratory safety guidelines, here.
He added that the guidelines can be used in all ASEAN countries.
