KUCHING, April 13- The community is urged to shoulder responsibility in addressing increasingly worrisome social issues, especially involving the younger generation.
Minister of Women, Family and Community Development, Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri said her ministry had received many complaints regarding social problems involving children that had gone viral on social media.
According to her, most of the cases occurred among low-income families, as well as involving school environment and the local community.
"Among the causes identified were exposure to inappropriate content such as pornographic videos on social media platforms which ultimately triggered incidents such as child molestation," she explained.
Therefore, she stressed the important role of adults, especially parents, in monitoring and controlling access to online content that could influence children's behavior.
She said this when speaking at the Majlis Ramah Tamah Aidilfitri 2025 Jalinan Kasih Syawal Pantai Damai organised by Kejiranan Mesra N.4 Pantai Damai in Kampung Rampangi, last night.
Meanwhile, Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier's Department, Datuk Dr. Abdul Rahman Junaidi also praised the community spirit shown through active participation in the 'bertuntong' activity.
He said that the traditional game not only revives the nostalgic atmosphere, but also strengthens neighbourhood ties within the local community.
Also present was the Mayor of Kuching North City Hall (DBKU), Datuk Hilmy Othman.
