KUALA LUMPUR, 28 Dec– The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, through the Malaysian Embassy in Stockholm, is actively monitoring the situation following a bus accident near Lake Åsvatnet, Norway, to ensure the safety and well-being of the Malaysians involved.
Passengers with minor injuries have been transferred to crisis centers at two nearby hotels, Richard Hotel in Stokmarknes and Thon Hotel in Lofoten.
In a recent statement from Wisma Putra, it was confirmed that four Malaysians are currently staying at Thon Hotel, where they have been provided accommodation.
"Due to the ongoing investigation, these passengers are not permitted to use phones or communicate directly with external parties. Hotel staff are also restricted from contacting the passengers," Wisma Putra stated.
The Embassy's consular team is working closely with Norwegian authorities to confirm the total number of Malaysians involved and to offer the necessary support.
Wisma Putra also noted that the investigation, compounded by severe winter conditions including heavy snow, strong winds, and the approximately 1,500km distance from Oslo, has posed significant logistical challenges in accessing and assisting the affected individuals.
Despite these challenges, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Malaysian Embassy remain dedicated to supporting the Malaysians involved.
"The ministry will continue to closely monitor the situation and provide updates as new information becomes available," the statement concluded.
