Aidilfitri: Kelantan KPDN reminds traders not to sell coconut milk for more than RM17.50

Kelantan KPDN Director Azman Ismail

KOTA BHARU, March 27 – The Kelantan Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) has issued a reminder to traders not to sell coconut milk above the maximum price of RM17.50 during the Aidilfitri festive season.

Kelantan KPDN Director Azman Ismail explained that coconut milk is one of the 24 goods controlled under the Hari Raya Puasa 2025 Festive Season Maximum Price Scheme (SHMMP), which is in effect from March 24 until April 7.

“For coconut milk, there is limited supply, and while the price has gone up, it remains slightly higher due to limited availability. Therefore, we’ve set the price at RM17.50 per kilo,” he said.

He emphasized that traders are prohibited from selling coconut milk for more than RM17.50 per kilo, even in wet markets. He made the statement at a press conference after monitoring the SHMMP’s implementation at a supermarket in the area.

In addition to coconut milk, other controlled goods during this festive period include imported buffalo meat, local beef (excluding areca nut meat), cucumbers, tomatoes, selayang fish, dried chillies, and more.

Azman further clarified that the increase in coconut milk prices was due to a shortage in local coconut production, caused by a disease called ‘red beetle.’ As a result, coconut milk has had to be imported from other regions.

Throughout the SHMMP’s enforcement period, Azman stated that a total of 147 enforcement officers and 81 price monitoring officers will be deployed to ensure compliance and take action against any traders attempting to exploit the price of controlled goods, including coconut milk.
